MAXI MINIMALISM

i normally don't think twice about jil sander. the clothes are classic and interchangeable and all that jazz, but i don't usually have an instant reaction to them. i also don't feel much when it comes to the spring runway collections. i love fall and everything it has to offer so, when i start seeing all the white and sheer and short stuff spring usually has to offer i tune out. however, this spring jil sander collection is kinda blowing my mind. the oversized minimalist styles and bright colors are right up my alley and are inspiring ideas of spring dress. the striped dresses are something i would love to own and they would probably have to be steamed off of me due to overwearing.

NEVER EVER NEVER

i am sorry to say that i haven't read the book by kazuo ishiguro, but i did see the movie NEVER LET ME GO. the movie was a reminder to me of the importance of independent film. i walked out of the theatre and felt like i couldn't talk for awhile. it was a breathtaking, subtle, beautiful movie about love, heartbreak and settling into your role in life whatever that may be. there's a scene where kathy h. is listening to the song, never let me go, by herself in her room and it literally broke my heart.

MICHAEL CASKER

been thinking a lot about clouds lately. i never imagine dressing up for halloween, ever, but this year i thought it would be fun to dress up like a cloud. i am even planning on starting a new drawing series of clouds. but i will let my imagination run amok with michael casker's images of pet clouds. CASKER is a photographer based in nyc who manages to style shoots amazingly.

CREATURES OF THE WIND

yesterday MATTEAH and i provided the musical backdrop for another lovely collection from our buds CREATURES OF THE WIND. it was a hectic morning but we seemed to pull off the right mood for their collection that was referencing the emotional backlash of being struck by lightning. akin to feeling the weight of heartache. i unfortunately didn't get to see the clothes up close because i was too busy looking down while playing, but i gathered some of my favorites from the ever helpful world wide web. i will hopefully get to see them in a few days. cuz i am especially loving that blazer and pant combo!

PRETTY TIPS

ever since i worked in the FLOWER SHOP i have been hooked on painting my nails (if for no other reason than it had been a quick way to cover up dirty hands and fingernails from prepping weddings all day). i don't usually get down with nail art, but these beauties at the VENA CAVA spring 2011 show really make me want to try this out.

i was the lucky recipient of a comme de garcons wallet for my birthday a few years ago. i thought i wouldn't want another one for a while, but it has started to get some wear and tear which of course means it might be time for a new one. with a birthday on the horizon it might be time to invest in one of these beautiful embossed clutch wallets from their new luxury line.

GREAT MINDS...STEVEN BURKE

it's funny when you see something and you're like " hey, but i didn't make that yet!". that's how i felt when i saw images of STEVEN BURKE'S poor little trees. i tried to find out more about him via his website, but it says simply that he is a designer specializing in illustration which i think is a simplification of his work. he's done a lot of work for a lot of people and companies, too. but i really like the poor little trees.

BEAT THE HEAT...

i love going to the movies, but i will definitely say that the over air-conditioned solitude it provides for 2 or so hours is more that worth the ticket price in the summer. i saw INCEPTION a few weeks ago and totally loved it. the costuming, the cast and the brain twists were all spot on. i haven't gravitated towards anything leonardo dicaprio has done in a long time, but this might be changing my mind. plus it has the beautiful marion cotillard and the ever charming joseph gordon-levitt.
