MANIAMANIA

23 December 2010

this cuff is something that is such an amazing statement piece. it's by a jewelry line called mania mania and called the perception bangle. i really like that jewelers are getting into making collections of jewels as to coincide with the fashion seasons. it just makes for such a cohesive grouping of jewelry. i am the type of person where if i like one thing out of a line, i usually love it all ( especially with new jewels). i love that the stone in the center of the eye is aquamarine. i love aquamarine. it's totally underused. i think i also just love the word aquamarine. it brings to mind a specific shampoo that was always in the shower when i was growing up called, aquamarine. it was the loveliest color and had a salty sea smell.
check out the rest of the jewelry HERE.

TOO SOON

08 December 2010

it's hard to imagine what music would be like if he was still around. but one thing is for sure all he ever seemed to want was peace. i was 1 when he passed, but he and the others were a constant present in my house growing up. my mom had a beatles song book with all the sheet music of their songs and i was teaching myself how to play them on my casio. thank you sir for making golden slumbers happen.

as i am desperately trying to get the last of my holiday orders out today and trying to prepare for SECOND STORIE market this weekend, i thought i would just give a little glimpse into the life of the lil lady who keeps me in check. meet ms. josephine. yes, this is how she hangs out most of the time and it's heartbreaking.

MILLIONS OF SEEDS

20 November 2010

when i was in london, i really wanted to go to the tate modern. there is currently an exhibit by the chinese artist AI WEIWEI which occupied the turbine hall at the tate. the turbine hall is a massive hall where they commission artists to usually do site specific work. ai weiwei filled it with millions of life size porcelain sunflower seeds. at first glance it looks like they are just run of the mill sunflower seeds, but upon closer inspection they are hand crafted, no two are alike, porcelain objects. porcelain and chinese culture go hand in hand, it used to be the number one trade object for china. and the sun was a major symbolic factor in chinese propaganda art. it would symbolize growth, glory and power. ai weiwei blends these two old chinese standards and makes something exciting, new and overwhelming to look at. when the exhibit first opened you could walk on the seeds and i was most excited about that, but it has since been closed to walking and you can view and touch it from the perimeters. totally amazing and inspiring work!

IMAGES FROM 2009 SECOND STORIE INDIE MARKET

i don't do many craft fairs anymore. selling wholesale has taken over the bulk of my time and business so, when it comes to doing the prep work for fairs i always feel like i am not giving it my all. but, i am happy to say this year i am taking part in the SECOND STORIE INDIE MARKET happening in rochester, ny on november 27th and 28th. it's a small market with a great amount of varied vendors and i am excited to take part in it. it also means that i get to travel upstate to see my dearest FRIEND and my mom! so, if you are in the area come and check it out!
