i don't normally pay too much attention to vanessa bruno's collections. i think that she puts together really pretty VIDEOS every season for her collection that make me want to be wherever she is filming them. but, i really liked the pre-fall 2011 collection that she did this year (all though i am not so sure about everyone's need to do prefall, but i did find myself liking a lot of the work that came out of it). it has that casually-comfortable-but-put together vibe that those lovely frenchies are so good at crafting

AND THE WINNER IS...

so, pantone has announced it's pick for color of the year...honeysuckle. a bright-ish pink color that is supposed to cheer the spirits and enthusiasm. it might just be me, but i feel the opposite when i look at this color. it's not not pretty, but it feels a little dated. and when i think of honeysuckle i think of summery white golden days. i am not sure how i feel about this. last years' color was a turquoise shade which was re-interpreted all over the place in different hues and i ended up liking it. maybe the same will happen for honeysuckle.

MILLIONS OF SEEDS

when i was in london, i really wanted to go to the tate modern. there is currently an exhibit by the chinese artist AI WEIWEI which occupied the turbine hall at the tate. the turbine hall is a massive hall where they commission artists to usually do site specific work. ai weiwei filled it with millions of life size porcelain sunflower seeds. at first glance it looks like they are just run of the mill sunflower seeds, but upon closer inspection they are hand crafted, no two are alike, porcelain objects. porcelain and chinese culture go hand in hand, it used to be the number one trade object for china. and the sun was a major symbolic factor in chinese propaganda art. it would symbolize growth, glory and power. ai weiwei blends these two old chinese standards and makes something exciting, new and overwhelming to look at. when the exhibit first opened you could walk on the seeds and i was most excited about that, but it has since been closed to walking and you can view and touch it from the perimeters. totally amazing and inspiring work!
