i never really cared about ED RUSCHA. when we learned about american artists i sort of just dismissed his work as an obvious statement of fact. he seemed like such an la fame-starved artist. which is why it's becoming apparently ironic to me that most of my work, as of late, has been text and image based. and as i look back at ruscha's work i have a real affinity for the nostalgia and emotion that the simplicity of it all causes me to feel. there is such a romanticism of language and image that sometimes it makes me uncomfortable to look at his work, but that i think is why i have grown to love it.
